Holy Heat Batman!

wow. I cannot Describe how hot it is today. Even the wind is hot. Ive heard that were reaching record breaking highs. Its 100F or 40 Celcius. Which in canada is INSANE. Our main goal today was keeping the chickens and horses watered and cooled down.  We let them out as We didnt want them stuck in the coop in this heat so the chickens are finding nice shady areas and water to cool down.

You will notice some open beaks before we gave them a huge tub of water to cool off.

This is what happens if you dont use a barn for a while ;). We need to invest in a weed wacker lol.

DSC_0558

Im thinking of fixing this pasture(Used to be the cows winter pasture) to put goats or sow with piglets eventually. Ideas welcome.

And we head to the barn to cool off the horses. It was so warm out horses didn’t even finish their feed my poor guys would rather stay in the barn.

Only three more boards left before we can mesh it in to start working on the coop

My mothers boyfriend is going to build us a door here to close off the coop area

Heads up when you have electric fence be careful the ends don’t touch! Somehow they ended up touching and was sparking. Fire hazard! You can see the burnt end. In this dry heat the barn could have gone up. Tomorrow Im going to trim these ends up.

This is our trough we use for the horses. We refill it twice a day. Today we have had to refill it three times and the day isnt done yet.

The two rescue standardbreds in the shadier area next to the barn. Were introducing my two with them tomorrow as they haven’t been fighting between the fence in a week.

Our silkie girl still hadnt taken a drink and was gaping so we decided to put her feet in the water to cool her off.

DSC_0597

Shes a little blind so finally took a drink once she was In the water!

DSC_0598

Much better no gaping!

Dont forget to keep your animals cooled down and yourselves! Funny enough I wasnt sweaty when I was out but when I walked in it just poured off of me. Stay hydrated and safe!

  1. Wow, that coop is going to look amazing when finished! The pic of the “weeded up” door made me laugh – just like our place! We’ve had so much rain early on, it was hard to keep up on it! And as for the pasture fence – GOATS!!!! Love all the pics!
